P7 and P6/7 braved the weather today and headed to Abriachan for a brilliant day of outdoor learning.

At Drakies, we are looking to develop our outdoor space and today was a fanatic opportunity for the pupils to ‘magpie’ some ideas!

We started off the morning with the identification of different types of trees in the area.

The pupils then got to plant their own Silver Birch trees! 🌳

After that we got to pick some spruces to take back to school to plant. We even thought about decorating a few for our classroom during the festive season 🎅🏽

We talked about the animals that live in the area and had a go at making our own bug hotels 🐜

It was very cold and wet so we got to toast some apples 🍎 and play in the park/tree house to finish off a brilliant day!

We can’t wait to take all of our new ideas back to school!

On Monday we had a forensic scientist visit P7. The theme of the workshop was ‘Decisions’.

First we learnt about all the people, places, actions and evidence types involved in CSI.

Something was stolen from our class and we had to create an eyewitness report to try and describe the suspect! This tested our observation and listening skills. We also discussed the implications in the justice system if the eye witness account was wrong! 👁

We then had to analyse and compare fingerprint samples to narrow down the suspects further.

Once we had figured out the suspect we got to take our own fingerprints and footprints 🖐🏼 👞

We learnt that there are 3 types of fingerprints, loop, whirl and arch.
